The vacancy

Are you seeking a dynamic role in a purpose-driven charity that values your professional expertise, development and wellbeing? We are seeking a proactive, organised and energetic Executive Assistant to empower our CEO so we can improve the impact for our veterans and their families. Join our team and benefit from a flexible and remote role with learning and development opportunities, a competitive charity benefits package and a work environment which is inclusive, supportive and interesting.

At Help for Heroes, we believe those who serve our country deserve support to live well after service. Every day, men and women leave their careers in the Armed Forces because they are wounded, injured or sick; their lives changed forever. We help them, and their families, to recover and live well after service.

And who are we you’re wondering? We are experts and beginners. Generalists and specialists. Ordinary people with an extraordinary passion towards making a positive change to the lives of our veterans (and having fun while doing it).

As One Team we share a philosophy – I.C.A.R.E. It’s the way we walk and talk, the way we interact with others and how we approach everything we do. We are:

Innovative – Collaborative – Authentic – Resourceful – Energetic.

About you

As the ideal candidate, you possess exceptional organisational and interpersonal skills, enabling you to manage competing priorities and build strong relationships across the charity. Your proactive and adaptable nature allows you to thrive in a fast-paced environment, while your keen attention to detail ensures precision in all aspects of your work. With a passion for our work and a commitment to personal and professional growth, you are eager to contribute your talents to make a tangible impact on the lives of veterans and their families.

About the role

  • Streamline our CEO's schedule, travel, and accommodation arrangements, ensuring maximum efficiency and focus on our core objectives.
  • Build strong relationships across the charity, keeping the CEO well-informed of key events and fostering collaboration among various departments.
  • Partner with directors to create an effective Executive Team calendar that highlights our accomplishments, focusses our attention and furthers our mission.
  • Manage Executive Team meetings and record-keeping with precision and attention to detail, enabling successful collaboration and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with our governance team to maintain trust, uphold transparency, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Lead and support special projects and strategic initiatives, providing essential support to the CEO and Executive Team to achieve our goals.
  • Provide exceptional administrative support to Executive Team members, empowering them to achieve their full potential.

About the team

Check out the ‘Our Management Team’ page of our website. As a charity we’re here to support people from our Armed Forces community who are facing challenges after service. And so, of course, our role as an Executive Team is to maximise the impact of this work in service of them – stewarding our income, maximising our investment in support costs and carefully planning for the future – so we deliver the most impact for those most in need.

About the process

  • We're keen to learn about your relationship-building skills, so please share examples of how you've forged and nurtured strong connections across diverse teams or stakeholders in your covering letter. Additionally, adaptability is key in our charity, so please highlight instances where you've navigated changes or tackled new challenges in previous roles, demonstrating your problem-solving abilities. We're excited to review your application and discover how your unique experiences will contribute to our Armed Forces community at Help for Heroes.
  • Accessibility and inclusion: at Help for Heroes, we celebrate diversity and are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, abilities, and experiences. Our goal is to create a supportive environment where everyone can thrive, and we're dedicated to providing reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process and beyond.
  • Safeguarding commitment: we are dedicated to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of people from our Armed Forces community. All colleagues are expected to share this commitment and contribute to a secure environment. As part of our safeguarding efforts, successful applicants will be required to undergo appropriate background checks, including a DBS check. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work together to protect those we serve.

Help for Heroes believes those who serve our country deserve support when they’re wounded. Every day, men and women have to leave their career in the Armed Forces as a result of physical or psychological wounds. The Charity helps them, and their families, to recover and get on with their lives. It has already supported more than 26,500 people and won’t stop until every wounded veteran gets the support they deserve.
